Sen. Jeff Wilson is urging patience and compassion as Longview continues to mourn the victims of the deadly Nippon industrial disaster. Speaking from the scene, Wilson described a grieving community searching for answers while emergency crews and investigators continue recovery operations. TOP STORY: WILSON ASKS COMMUNITY TO GIVE INVESTIGATORS TIME According to Wilson: “There are still many people that drive down to this facility wanting to see something, wanting to just be near the site.” Wilson said residents are understandably seeking answers, but emphasized that emergency crews need space and time to safely complete their work. He urged community members: ➡️ Stay away from the disaster site ➡️ Allow investigators to complete recovery efforts ➡️ Be patient as officials gather information According to Wilson: “We've got to get time to get them their answers.” “THIS IS ABOUT PEOPLE” Wilson stressed that the tragedy extends far beyond business operations or economic concerns. According to Wilson: “This isn't business first. It still is about people.” He explained: Longview is a close-knit community Many residents personally know someone who works at the facility Families throughout the area are grieving the loss of friends, coworkers, and loved ones Wilson noted: ➡️ The emotional impact is being felt throughout the community ➡️ Workers and families remain at the center of the recovery effort ➡️ The focus must remain on those affected by the tragedy HEARTBREAKING LOSS FOR LONGVIEW Wilson delivered one of the most emotional moments of the interview when discussing workers still unaccounted for. According to Wilson: “Those other employees and workers that are still gone, they're not going to come home tonight ever.” The comments reflect the enormous loss facing: Families of the victims Coworkers at the Nippon facility The broader Longview community Officials continue working to recover victims and determine exactly what caused the catastrophic industrial failure.
