New details are emerging about the environmental impact of the catastrophic Nippon DynaWave disaster in Longview after officials confirmed that tens of thousands of gallons of white liquor entered local storm drains, nearby dikes, and portions of the Columbia River. Officials say environmental monitoring remains ongoing as investigators work to assess the full impact of the chemical release. TOP STORY: CHEMICAL SPILL REACHES LOCAL WATERWAYS According to Nippon DynaWave officials: Tens of thousands of gallons of white liquor escaped during the disaster The chemical entered local stormwater systems Contamination reached nearby dikes and portions of the Columbia River Officials say environmental teams are actively monitoring: ➡️ Water quality ➡️ Wildlife impacts ➡️ Potential downstream effects The chemical involved, commonly known as white liquor, is used in paper manufacturing and contains highly caustic substances.
