Washington State Senator Jeff Wilson says he has never seen an industrial tank failure like the one that devastated the Nippon Dynawave facility in Longview, killing multiple workers and leaving investigators searching for answers. Wilson, who worked at the site for years as a contractor and whose son currently works at the facility, says major questions remain about exactly what caused the catastrophic failure. While investigators have confirmed it was a tank failure, officials are still working to determine whether the incident involved a structural collapse, a rupture, or another mechanical failure. According to Wilson, one of the most troubling aspects of the disaster is the apparent wall of liquid that was unleashed when the tank began to lean, sending massive amounts of chemical solution across the work area. In this episode: • Senator Jeff Wilson discusses the Longview plant disaster • Investigators continue examining the cause of the tank failure • Questions remain about whether the collapse was structural or mechanical • Recovery efforts continue following the deadly incident • Families seek answers as investigations move forward • Lawsuits are expected following the disaster • Federal investigators and safety officials begin reviewing evidence • Community members continue mourning those lost in the tragedy Wilson says determining exactly what happened will be critical not only for the affected families, but also to ensure a similar tragedy never happens again.
