DESCRIPTION
One week after the deadly disaster at the Nippon Dynawave facility in Longview, investigators with the Washington Department of Labor & Industries have finally gained full access to the site and begun their official investigation.
The disaster claimed the lives of 11 workers, making it Washington state's deadliest industrial accident since 1930. Investigators are now working to determine what caused the catastrophic tank failure and whether any warning signs were missed.
Meanwhile, environmental monitoring continues around the site. Officials say there is no evidence contaminants reached the Columbia River, but more than 2,300 dead fish have now been recovered from nearby waterways. State and federal agencies continue testing water quality and monitoring environmental impacts.
The investigation is expected to continue for months as families, workers, and the community search for answers.
