Washington City Moves To Block Future Income Taxes

DESCRIPTION
The Pasco City Council has adopted a resolution opposing Washington's new income tax while exploring additional local safeguards against any future city income tax.
Council members say they want to ensure residents have a voice before any local income tax could ever be considered, even as legal challenges to Washington's newly enacted income tax continue to move through the courts.
The report also provides an update on Initiative 26-645, the effort to repeal Washington's income tax. More than 500,000 petition signatures have been submitted to the Secretary of State, far exceeding the approximately 309,000 valid signatures required to qualify for the November ballot. Signature verification is expected to take two to three weeks.
If certified, the repeal initiative is expected to become one of the most closely watched ballot measures in Washington this fall, with major labor unions already committing millions of dollars to campaign against it.
