DESCRIPTION
A new WalletHub study ranks the best and worst cities for renters across America—and several Washington cities landed near the bottom of the list. The report compared more than 180 major rental markets using 21 different factors, including rental affordability, quality of life, job opportunities, safety, cost of living, traffic, weather, and rental market conditions. Seattle finished in the middle of the rankings, while Spokane, Vancouver, and Tacoma ranked much lower, highlighting ongoing affordability challenges facing renters across Washington state. The Center Square spoke with WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo about why Arizona cities dominated the rankings and why Washington continues to struggle with housing affordability despite its strong economy. For many younger families and first-time homebuyers, rising rents are making it increasingly difficult to save for a down payment, raising broader questions about affordability and housing policy across the state.
