DESCRIPTION
Washington business leaders are warning that rising taxes, mounting regulations and growing economic uncertainty are influencing where companies choose to invest and expand. Speaking at the Association of Washington Business (AWB) Economic Future Solutions Summit, executives from several Washington manufacturers described what they see as an increasingly difficult business climate. Some said businesses are closing, relocating or expanding into neighboring states because of rising costs and concerns about future tax policies. Pearson Packaging CEO Mike Senske said his company's decision to expand into Idaho was influenced by Washington's changing tax environment, including concerns over the state's new 9.9% tax on certain high-income earners and broader uncertainty about future policy changes. TigerStop Vice President Nate Dick said his company is seeing vendors shut down, relocate or sell their businesses after facing rising costs across multiple areas. The discussion comes as a recent AWB member survey found that 24% of responding employers are considering moving their business out of Washington, while 18% are actively developing relocation plans and 7% have already secured locations outside the state. More than half of respondents also reported considering moving their personal residence. The comments reflect an ongoing debate over Washington's economic competitiveness, business climate and the long-term effects of tax and regulatory policy on investment and job creation. #WashingtonBusiness #WashingtonEconomy #WashingtonPolitics #BusinessClimate #Taxes #EconomicDevelopment #WashingtonNews #TheCenterSquare #WashingtonInFocus
