DESCRIPTION
The Department of Homeland Security says more than 250,000 noncitizens have been identified on voter rolls nationwide as federal investigators expand their election integrity review. Officials say states including California, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Nevada, Georgia, Texas and others have been notified to review voter registration records.
In this report, we examine:
DHS claims regarding noncitizen voter registrations
New Jersey's admission that a software error registered thousands of noncitizens
Reports that hundreds of those registrations resulted in ballots being cast
The debate over automatic voter registration systems
Congressional action on voter ID legislation
The potential financial and administrative costs to taxpayers
As election security remains a national issue, questions continue over voter roll maintenance, election administration costs, and how government agencies protect the integrity of taxpayer-funded elections.
Stay informed with nonpartisan reporting on government accountability, public policy, and taxpayer impact.
