Election officials in several states are reviewing non-citizen voter registrations as part of ongoing voter roll maintenance efforts. In North Carolina, election officials say approximately 1,600 registered voters identified as non-citizens will receive due process under state and federal law before any potential removal from the voter rolls. Similar reviews have also identified deceased registrants and non-citizens on voter rolls in Ohio, Tennessee, Idaho, Alabama, Missouri, Louisiana, and Kansas. Meanwhile, New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill is facing questions from Republican lawmakers and federal officials regarding reports that more than 6,000 non-citizens were allowed to register to vote in the state.
