An Illinois House investigation is moving forward as lawmakers examine alleged financial misconduct involving Democratic State Rep. Carol Ammons. The Center Square Illinois reporter Shawn Reid reports that Ammons is facing eight counts of wire fraud and one count of making a false statement tied to an alleged kickback scheme involving taxpayer-funded state grants awarded to nonprofits in her district. Ammons and her husband have pleaded not guilty. Her attorney had previously sought to delay the House proceeding while the federal case moves forward, but House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch said he does not believe the legislative investigation will interfere with the separate federal trial. The case comes as Illinois lawmakers are already facing increased scrutiny over ethics, sexual harassment allegations, financial misconduct, and accountability at the State House. The investigation raises important questions about taxpayer-funded grants, government oversight, political accountability, and how public money is distributed to nonprofits. #CarolAmmons #Illinois #IllinoisPolitics #IllinoisHouse #TaxpayerDollars #GovernmentSpending #Fraud #WireFraud #PoliticalScandal #GovernmentAccountability #TaxpayerMoney #IllinoisNews #ChrisWelch #BreakingNews #CenterSquare
