Gavin Newsom Launches Taxpayer Funded EV Incentives

Federal electric vehicle incentives may have been scaled back, but taxpayers in several states are still helping subsidize EV purchases. California is launching a new state-funded EV incentive program offering up to $3,500 for new electric vehicles and $1,750 for used EVs, with additional incentives tied to income and qualifying vehicles. Illinois has also launched a new EV rebate program funded with $14 million in state taxpayer dollars, including rebates of up to $4,000 for qualifying low-income buyers. Meanwhile, states including New York, Colorado, Washington, Texas, Maryland and Oregon have spent millions of dollars on electric vehicle rebates and tax incentives. So what happens when federal EV subsidies disappear but states continue funding them?
