Seattle’s Plymouth Housing Faces Scrutiny Over Worker Safety Concerns

Seattle’s Plymouth Housing is facing new scrutiny over workplace safety concerns as questions grow about conditions inside taxpayer-funded supportive housing. Radio host Ari Hoffman is asking Washington Labor & Industries and federal workplace safety officials to examine whether Plymouth Housing employees and case managers could be exposed to hazards including fentanyl smoke, used needles, drug paraphernalia and human waste while working inside supportive housing facilities. The concerns come amid a broader debate over Seattle’s Housing First and harm-reduction strategies, as well as renewed scrutiny of the Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion, or LEAD, program. A recent Washington Policy Center analysis challenged several claims used to demonstrate LEAD’s effectiveness, fueling calls for greater oversight of taxpayer-funded diversion and homelessness programs. Meanwhile, pressure continues to build on Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson and members of the Seattle City Council. A new Fulcrum Strategy poll commissioned by the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce shows Wilson’s favorability falling from 57% in April to 37%, according to figures discussed in the segment.
