A Database of License Plate Camera Abuses Now Has 170 Cases and Is Being Updated Daily

The Institute for Justice's new tracker has documented 170 cases of law enforcement misuse of ALPR/Flock cameras nationwide, including officers using the systems to look up family members or stalk romantic partners. A plurality of cases are in Georgia, where Flock is headquartered. The Center Square's Kim Jarrett joins to discuss the cases and the Institute for Justice's database. Georgia state Sen. John Albers called for a task force balancing the technology's investigative value against privacy concerns, while Flock has cut data retention from 30 to 7 days and added new accountability audits following the wave of officer misconduct cases.
