Tyson Foods is looking to sell its Pasco-area beef processing plant, the largest beef processing facility in the Pacific Northwest, raising new questions about the future of Washington's cattle and agricultural industries. Tyson announced August 13 that it would end operations at beef facilities in Illinois and Utah while pursuing a sale of its Washington plant. Washington Cattle Feeders Association Executive Director Jack Field says news of the proposed sale sent immediate shockwaves through cattle markets. USDA data cited in the episode ranks Washington last nationally for farm profitability, with producers losing nearly $400 million in 2024.
