Washington state Sen. John Braun fired back at U.S. Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez during a heated debate in Washington's 3rd Congressional District race, accusing the incumbent congresswoman of misrepresenting his position on the Iran war. After Perez suggested Braun needed to understand President Donald Trump's thinking before deciding whether the conflict was justified, Braun rejected that characterization. Braun accused Perez of telling “Pinocchio stories” to protect her congressional seat and argued that the conflict requires serious leadership. He also warned that the United States must avoid becoming involved in an open-ended, never-ending war. The exchange highlights disagreements over the Iran conflict, U.S. foreign policy and national security in Washington's 2026 congressional elections.
