Illinois Senate Candidate Juliana Stratton Calls for Ending the Filibuster

Illinois Lt. Gov. and Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Juliana Stratton says she wants to eliminate the Senate filibuster if Democrats regain control of the chamber. During an interview with The Center Square, Stratton argues that the filibuster has blocked progress on voting rights, reproductive rights and gun control legislation, including a proposed federal assault weapons ban. When asked whether Republicans should also eliminate the filibuster to advance voter ID legislation, Stratton reiterates that she wants Democrats to end the rule when they take back the Senate. Stratton also responds to criticism of the Democratic Party and questions about political commentator Hasan Piker and Democratic Socialists of America organizations. She says she disagrees with some of Piker's statements and found some offensive, while emphasizing affordability, higher wages, voting rights and protecting democracy.
