Skyview High School Athletes React to Support After Girls' Sports Protest

Skyview High School student-athletes Sierra Retzlaff and Charlie Garrett speak about the encouragement and public attention they've received amid the Washington girls' sports controversy. Following a cross-country race, Sierra describes feeling nervous beforehand but confident while running. She also reflects on how surprising it has been to have so many people recognize her name and offer their support. Charlie joins in expressing appreciation for the encouragement, while Sierra's father, Joel Retzlaff, shares his pride in the athletes and their performance. Their reactions come as Washington's high school athletics debate continues to draw attention, including questions surrounding girls' sports, transgender athlete participation, competitive fairness and Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) policies. The Center Square continues covering Washington student-athletes, Skyview High School, the Camas-area cross-country controversy, girls' school sports and the broader discussion surrounding high school athletic participation.
