DESCRIPTION
Amy Davis's small business, Davis Country Store and Café in Old Fort, cooked food for the community in the days after Hurricane Helene reached western North Carolina. Since then the store has acted as an aid distribution center, providing water, propane and other essentials to the community in addition to meals. In the three weeks after the storm, Davis estimates over 23,000 free meals were served to the community. Her family also established the Davis Relief Fund, a nonprofit that provides "relief cabins" as temporary housing for those in need.
