Washington state Sen. John Braun, a 31-year U.S. Navy veteran and congressional candidate, warned against an open-ended war with Iran during a debate in Washington's 3rd Congressional District. Braun said he has three family members currently serving on active duty in the military, including his daughter, son and son-in-law. Drawing on his military career and experience deployed to the Strait of Hormuz, Braun argued that the United States should not continue a war without clearly defined objectives and an achievable endpoint. While acknowledging the complexity of the conflict, Braun emphasized the need for a clear strategy, saying the war currently lacks a defined ending point. The remarks come amid debate over U.S. military involvement in Iran, national security, military families and American foreign policy.
